have we all dug out from underneath piles of torn-up wrapping paper and tissue paper? and perhaps even a bit of snow, if you were lucky (i’m one of about three people who LOVES snow). one thing we definitely haven’t dug ourselves out from over here are the heaps of cookies. and i’m not complaining one bit….
i have a penchant for complicating things (“lazy” waffles with a bunch of self-imposed rules about ingredients and techniques, anyone?) but sometimes? sometimes you just need a quick, back pocket recipe that you know is going to work. one that doesn’t require trips to three different stores. one that you can make now and serve later. and bonus points if it makes you look like a fancy dessert maker person, when in fact all you did is layer 2 things together and sprinkle on a bit of tasty decoration. …
for as long as i can remember, there has been a big spiral cut ham for our christmas celebrations. when i was little, it was always at my cousins’ house on christmas eve. as i got older, they branched out some years and served other meats. not wanting to celebrate christmas without the traditional ham, though, my mom started getting a ham for our smaller family gathering on christmas day. …which inevitably lead to having ham for dinner two nights in a row some years, when the cousins served one too….
these orange infused fig biscuits are the result of a winding journey that included versions with various types of cheese (where the cheese was either not noticeable or not a positive addition), a soak in port for the figs (because we all have bottles of port lying around waiting for our next biscuit craving to strike…), and one particularly bizarre version that involved ricotta cheese and jam (it sounds good in theory, right? maybe?)….
there are nearly 22 million hits on google for “macaroni and cheese”. arguably, the interwebs hardly needs another recipe for baked macaroni and cheese. we’re doing it anyway though. ‘cause we’re rebels (or because i just like this one the best)….
